Formerly the Mpu Purwa museum was named the Mpu Purwa Archaeological Rescue Hall Building, and was inaugurated by the mayor of Malang at the time Drs. Peni Suparto. After being revitalized since 2014 until it was finally opened and re-inaugurated yesterday on July 14, 2018 by the Minister of Education and Culture Prof. Dr. Muhajir Effendy by the name of MPU Purwa Museum.

Mpu Purba Museum is located on Jalan Soekarno Hatta Griya Shanta Housing block B-210. Has a building area of ​​around 1200 m2. The building looks even better and the collection of historical objects is also complete. The Mpu Purwa Museum has a collection of 136 pieces, originating from the Kingdom of Mpu Sindok to the Kingdom of Majapahit, 58 of which are on display for visitors, the rest are stored in storage. This museum displays so many historical statues, one of which is the Statue of Ganesha Tikus as the only statue in Indonesia. Statue of Ganesha mouse commonly found in India. The statue of Ganesha depicts the god riding a small rat vehicle, where Ganesha is depicted sitting on a small rat's shank.

In the future, Mpu Purwa Museum, aside from being a place for storing historical objects, will also be built as a place to hold art performances and exhibition places for artists and history lovers to display to tourists, of course in collaboration with government, travel agents, tour guides, and organizations.
